Those who like to travel the Metropolis Ruhr by bike are welcome: With a length of 230 km the cycling trail RuhrtalRadweg is perfect to discover the Ruhr river from its spring in the Sauerland mountains to where it meets the Rhine in Duisburg.
Buying a RUHR.TOPCARD enables its owner to visit more than 90 attractions in the Ruhr metropolis, the Sauerland and lower Rhine regions for free once in a year. It’s the perfect entrance ticket to the best zoos, swimming pools, cruise ships, museums and other recreational facilities in the region. 250 festivals and celebrations in the course of a year provide special entertainment and variety in the Metropolis Ruhr. The most spectacular of these is ExtraSchicht. In the Night of Industrial Culture industrial plants throughout the region transform into fascinating venues between 6pm and 2am. Flamboyantly illuminated they become the setting for all kinds of artists and their spectacular performances.
Highlights in the Ruhr area also include the Klavier-Festival Ruhr (Ruhr Piano Festival), Ruhrfestspiele (Ruhr theatre festival) and Ruhrtriennale as well as the Zeltfestival Ruhr (Tent festival), Bochum Total and the Cranger Kirmes - one of the largest folk festivals in North Rhine-Westphalia.
